LUDWIG would like to celebrate its housewarming with you!
Tuesday 11 November 2014, 6 p.m., Zuiderkerk, Amsterdam.

LUDWIG and 24classics.com in the Zuiderkerk
On 1 November LUDWIG will be moving into a listed national monument: the sexton’s residence at Amsterdam’s Zuiderkerk church. This is a tremendous home base, with a magnificent music venue – the church – right next door. LUDWIG has eagerly seized the opportunity to organize concerts and other activities in this well cared-for neighbourhood. It will do so in partnership with 24classics.com (which is also moving into the building) and the nearby cultural centre Splendor. On 11 November the partners will be holding their housewarming: the Zuiderkerk will be open to the neighbours. A large procession for Martinmas (a Christian festival celebrated on 11 November of each year), attended by Amsterdam’s mayor Eberhard van der Laan, will conclude festively with music, food and drinks in the church.

In mid-October LUDWIG and 24classics.com received great news: on 1 November the two organizations would be moving into the magnificent seventeenth-century sexton’s residence at Amsterdam’s Zuiderkerk church. This was an initiative by Gerrit Key, who rents the church buildings privately from the city council. He is responsible for the management of the Zuiderkerk, and had invited 24classics.com and LUDWIG to assist him with this. The partitions between the residence and the church will be removed – both literally and figuratively.

Neighbours
The Zuiderkerk, which until 2011 was a permanent exhibition room for Amsterdam City Council and then briefly housed the National Historical Museum, is greatly suited for all kinds of events. This makes it an ideal try-out venue for LUDWIG, which plans to hold lectures, public rehearsals, concerts and so on there. In the week of 15 December, of instance, the programme for the Vredenburg Friday concert will be rehearsed in the church. The repertoire includes Beethoven’s Sixth (Pastoral) Symphony, and the rehearsal on 18 December will be open to the public. LUDWIG and its partners at the church will carry out their activities in close consultation with local people; Amsterdam’s Central District has flourishing neighbourhood and business associations. 24classics.com, Splendor and LUDWIG will also make efforts to improve facilities for the city and liven up the neighbourhood. As a first example of its integration into its new environment, LUDWIG will be holding a relaxed housewarming party on 11 November.

Lantern procession
The organizations will be joining a lantern procession with some 150 children from Amsterdam’s  Protestant [een Germaans begrip zonder equivalent in het Engels] Deaconry. Halfway through, the children will stop to present their music to city mayor Eberhard van der Laan. At 6 p.m. the procession will reach the Zuiderkerk, where children, parents and neighbours will be treated to hot chocolate, wine and tasty food (all provided by the local businesses listed below). LUDWIG will play a short, attractive programme of music for all the guests. Afterwards the neighbours will be able to meet the people behind 24classics.com and LUDWIG. Admission free.

The next activity will be a public rehearsal by LUDWIG on 18 December 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m., including Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony.
