The Project

LUDWIG will give home concerts for anyone in Amsterdam on Sunday 3 December 2017, at 4.30 or 8 p.m. Go to, watch the videos and reserve the ensemble of your choice. Reservations start from 12 midday on Thursday 23 November.

The day before our performance at the Concertgebouw with the international star Barbara Hannigan, our 64-strong orchestra will split up into 23 small ensembles to give ‘LUDWIG at Home’ concerts all over Amsterdam. This is LUDWIG’s Sinterklaas present to our home city of Amsterdam – any inhabitant of Amsterdam can see and hear us at home for free! (Sinterklaas is the Dutch equivalent of Santa Claus, whose festival is celebrated in early December, complete with presents!)

These will be spontaneous performances – the ensembles will bring sheet music, discuss things with the host or hostess, and start playing! The concerts will last about 45 minutes. We have a harp-and-flute duo who would be perfect for a marriage proposal, and a horn quartet that would probably sound best out in your garden. The percussionists are sure to go looking for noisy pots and pans in your kitchen. But of course we also have string ensembles with a romantic or more classical repertoire. And if it’s adventure you’re after, try one of our more experimental improvisation ensembles!

How to reserve
Go to and scroll down the ensembles. Click on the pictures and watch the presentation videos. The first person to reserve an ensemble will get the home concert of his or her choice! When you reserve you’ll be asked to give your address, phone number and e-mail address. Reservations will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis – a LUDWIG staff member will get in touch with the ‘winners’ to sort out the practical details.
